<p>Alexei Oreskovic of Thompson Reuters has written an article about a Joint Venture you should know about.</p>
<p>Microsoft Corp and Google Inc have sealed separate agreements to access real-time content from Web phenomenon Twitter, intensifying their battle for a search market that Google now dominates.</p>
<p>Google and Microsoft&#8217;s five-month-old Bing search engine, which hopes to take on the current leader, both won access to Twitter&#8217;s store of public data in real time, executives at the two companies said on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The long-expected deals are expected to ramp up the efficacy and lure of search results, by allowing users to scan real-time Tweets: 140-character stream-of-consciousness messages that Twitter hosts on its vastly popular website.</p>
<p>But Microsoft appeared to one-up its rival Google, which controls 65% of the search market, with a deal also to include content from social networking site Facebook, one of the Internet&#8217;s most visited addresses.</p>
<p>Terms of the deals &#8211; which were non-exclusive &#8211; were not disclosed.</p>
<p>&#8220;In the past few years, an entirely new type of data has emerged &#8211; real-time updates like those on Twitter,&#8221; said Marissa Mayer, Google&#8217;s vice president of search products.</p>
<p>&#8220;We have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data.&#8221;</p>
<p>Twitter, the three-year-old Web start-up that has become an Internet sensation popularized by celebrities and government, attracts tens of millions of visitors every month.</p>
<p>Qi Lu, president of online services at Microsoft, said data from Twitter could provide &#8220;signals&#8221; about which content on the Web is most popular and most relevant to search queries.</p>
<p>&#8220;You can use those to augment today&#8217;s search experience,&#8221; Mr. Lu told a San Francisco Internet conference.</p>
<p>From Wednesday, Twitter search results will be accessible on a special section of Bing as a beta, or test product. Microsoft plans to present the most popular Tweets of the moment, while allowing Web surfers to view Twitter messages that contain links to other Web content. Microsoft will filter out spam and other extraneous data.</p>
<p>Conversely, Bing&#8217;s Facebook deal encompasses only messages that its 300 million-plus users have flagged as viewable to the public, a practice that is relatively new and not as widespread on the social network, where users typically send messages to groups of friends.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is one of the first times that a search engine will be differentiated through access to content. We think Bing will benefit from the right to index and display the tweets almost as soon as they are posted,&#8221; JPMorgan said in a research note before Google announced its own agreement.</p>
<p>&#8220;As searchers are looking for more and more real-time Web results, we think this partnership will help Bing to improve its user experience.&#8221;</p>
<p>Microsoft also inked a deal this year to entwine its search efforts with Yahoo&#8217;s.</p>
<p>Yahoo&#8217;s chief technology officer, Ari Balogh, told reporters that, generally speaking, any data Microsoft&#8217;s search engine has access to would also be accessible to Yahoo under the terms of their partnership.</p>
<p>Yahoo already has been testing the limited inclusion of Twitter messages within Yahoo search results to certain users, he added.</p>
<p>&#8220;All content on the Web is relevant to search,&#8221; Mr. Balogh said. He thought people would not want to go to three or four sites to access different types of data, such as Twitter results.</p>

<p>It has just been a whirlwind of crazy excitement around Hartman Enterprises lately – there is SO much going on – <strong>hopefully a lot of it exciting for you!</strong></p>
<p><em>It’s hard to know where to start but I want to tell you more about my New York trip that was so amazing!</em></p>
<p>If you didn’t hear about it yet, I went to New York to meet with my publishers and attend Rick Frishman’s Author 101 conference and Book Expo America. It was so great to meet up with all of these people like Rick Frishman and David Hancock – <strong>I’ve been friends with them for years now, but this was the first chance to actually meet up in person.</strong></p>

<p>It’s actually one of my favourite things about <a href="http://www.entrepreneur.com/interstitial/Ent_Interstitial.aspx?URL=/ebusiness/index.html" target="_blank">starting an online business</a> and being in groups like the <a href="http://www.privatejvclub.com" target="_blank">Private JV Club</a> – <strong>when you finally get to meet up wi</strong><strong>th people, you almost don’t even realize that you’ve never met them! </strong>I love being part of business that allows you to create these deep, global relationships with people!</p>
<p>I got the chance to catch up with old friends (that I have met) too – some speaker buddies, Mark Victor Hansen – I got a HUGE hug and kiss when I met up with him again!</p>
<p><strong>Meeting up with all of these people seemed to make the connection we’d created over the years even deeper – it’s something I really recommend that if you get the chance to go to a conference or an event somewhere</strong>,  be sure to jump on it! Besides getting the chance to learn some great things, the ability to actually meet up with people in person is always priceless.</p>
<p><em>Just because you’re <a href="http://hartofsuccess.com/2009/06/are-you-ready-to-get-it-done-today/" target="_blank">starting an online business</a>, it doesn’t mean you don’t create awesome relationships both over the Internet and in person!<br />

<strong>Even cooler was the chance to meet up with some of the <a href="http://www.privatejvclub.com" target="_blank">Private JV Club</a> members and even some of the folks from my Mastermind Group – it was like a big reunion! </strong><span id="more-444"></span></p>

<p>It was great hearing from people about how much the club means to them and the new connections they’re making – one woman I met up with says she has so many potential new partners that she hasn’t even had the time to get back to them all yet – <em>now that’s a great problem to have!</em></p>
<p>So much more happened in New York that I’ll be sharing in the blog over the coming days, but I just wanted to connect and show off some pictures in the meantime – giving a big shout out to everyone who was there at the conference – <strong>would love to hear some comments about your experience.</strong></p>
<p><em>AND I can’t go into the details until later in the summer, but I’m going to be starting a publishing company and working with a an award winning well known New York Publisher and world famous distributor.<br />

<p>When you go into Walmart and find a McDonald’s inside, that’s a Joint Venture.  When you go into Starbucks and use T-Mobile or Rogers WiFi, that’s a Joint Venture.  When you watch Major League Baseball on NBC, it’s a Joint Venture.</p>
<p>There are countless examples of how corporations are using this powerful <a href="http://hartofsuccess.com/2009/04/are-you-using-a-sales-and-marketing-calendar/" target="_blank">marketing strategy</a> to increase their profits and recognition in leaps and bounds.  <strong>If corporations are the epitome of old-style, crush the competition business ways and they are using this technique, you know there’s something to it!</strong></p>
<p><em>The truth is, entrepreneurs and small business’ are NOT taking advantage!</em></p>
<p>I’ve seen so much exciting evidence that the entrepreneurs of today have a ton of heart – <strong>you have an amazing product or service that you just want to share with the world – you want to make money, but you want to serve people too.</strong></p>

</strong><br />
I think BOTH are relative to business &#8211; however, the romantic one is the one that I apply toward my <a href="http://marketing.about.com/" target="_blank">marketing strategies</a> – <strong>particularly when it comes to presentations (like teleclasses)!</strong></p>
<p><em>Did you know that when it comes to your presentation, what you start out with is SO much more important than the last 15 minutes of the “close” at the end?<br />
</em><br />
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve come across that have it all backwards – <strong>they put all their time and energy into that final 15 minutes</strong>.  But the truth is, if you’ve done your job through the first 45 minutes of your talk, <strong>you can write a simple, easy sales pitch for the end and you will create massive sales – and way more than you would have otherwise!</strong></p>
<p>I taught this strategy and went through a teleseminar template that I described to <a href="http://www.mattbacak.com/" target="_blank">Matt Bacak</a> (Internet Marketer), and when he started using it, his sales went up dramatically and immediately.  <em>He said my template felt “real” and “the best” to him, it made so much sense to him and he loved the new insight of “You had me at hello”. </em></p>
<p>The impact was even greater for him as before he spoke to me he had just had meeting with someone that was really salesy and aggressive, which he didn’t enjoy at all – and his sales reflected that.  <strong>But using this new structure worked for him amazingly!  In fact it was the best sales he’d ever done.</strong></p>
<p><em>What he learned is that your best sales come from you speaking the truth, being who you are, and knowing the structure of what you need to put it in.<br />
</em><br />
<strong>You don’t have to be someone that you’re not in order to make great sales! </strong><span id="more-317"></span></p>
<p>I taught these same ideas to <a href="http://www.ericlofholm.com/" target="_blank">Eric Lofholm</a>.  He’s a GREAT salesman – he sells to people at seminars all the time, but he admitted his teleseminar phone sales were terrible.  <em>He actually just gave up on the whole idea of doing teleseminars!<br />
</em><br />
<strong>But he simply needed a different structure, because selling on the phone is very different than selling on stage</strong>.  I taught him the structure that I teach in my <a href="http://www.stefaniehartman.com/mit/" target="_blank">Millionaires in Training</a> (MIT) program (and honestly that one little piece is worth the price of the course alone!)</p>
<p><strong>And he went from giving up (and no sales) to selling half a million of products in a few months from the 1 structure I gave him!  That speaks for itself!<br />
</strong><br />
You might be interested to know that the reason I put this structure together was because <strong>I was actually hired by a company some years ago that hosted 3-4 teleseminars a month for different people to sell their products, while he made a commision. </strong></p>
<p><em>The owner brought in these people, and he made an average of $10K a month through booking these speakers – so having people that would really be good at selling was very important to him!<br />
</em><br />
My job was to listen to the teleseminars and tell the owner who would sell and who wouldn’t.  <strong>And I would actually sit there listening and write down the exact time of when this speaker would lose their audience</strong> – some would lose it at 5 minutes into the call, others at 30 minutes, and some would lose them at several points throughout the call!</p>
<p><em>It was almost like having a first date and saying the wrong thing – several times!  These people were unknowingly completely ruining their relationships!  And let me tell you, you’re NOT going to get a second date when that happens!<br />
</em><br />
So I would write these times down for the owner of the company, and then we would look at the printout from the phone company after the call that would tell us exactly when people started hanging up – and it matched exactly.</p>
<p><strong>And it was tragic – because not only were these sellers losing people emotionally, but they were so turned off that people actually hung up!<br />
</strong><br />
And who knows about those people that didn’t hang up – I mean they could have been staring at their grocery list or vacuuming the house by that point – <em>because they no longer had any reason to be invested in the call.</em></p>
<p><strong>In these cases it was more like, “You LOST me at hello!”</strong></p>
<p>So I started to realize that a lot of great business people were running into these same issues, and came up with the structure to implement to keep this from happening!</p>
<p><strong>This is what Eric Lofholm had to say after he learned it:</strong></p>
<p>“<em>Thank you for the awesome coaching. I am a master at selling from the stage. However, I have done over 100 conference calls and never had success closing orders on a teleclass. I implemented over 10 ideas you suggested during our coaching session. My results were incredible. In fact my phones began to ring off the hook before the call was even completed. Your insight was awesome. I&#8217;ve added it up and I&#8217;ve profited over $500,000 since implementing your ideas. I look forward to utilizing your consulting services for years to come.</em>”</p>
<p><strong>If you find yourself running into these same issues in your <a href="http://hartofsuccess.com/2009/04/looking-for-ways-to-do-really-targeted-marketing/" target="_blank">marketing strategies</a> when it comes to presentations or teleseminars, begin to implement the following:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>One of my HUGEST pet peeves on a call is when people say, “You folks”.  <strong>It doesn&#8217;t matter if there are 1500 people on the line – you need to be speaking to just one person! </strong>Say the word “You”.  You can even envision talking to a certain person in your mind to better assist you to speak in this way.  You will be surprised at what a difference it will make for you!</li>
<li>AND, many people make the mistake of selling only in the last 15 minute of the call or presentation.<strong> It’s like there’s all this lead-up and then BAM – buy stuff from me!</strong> The reality is, you should be seeding your product or service throughout the entire presentation – <em>the end is where you can give the details, but your sales pitch shouldn’t be coming out of left field! </em></li>
</ul>
<p>It takes me about 60 minutes to go through the whole structured template for my clients &amp; students, <strong>but these are probably 2 of the most important aspects of presentation and keeping that “You had me at hello” mindset. </strong></p>
<p><em>Put these into effect in your teleseminar and you’ll begin to see changes right away!</em></p>

How Are You Finding Your Target Market?

<p>I was recently on a <a href="http://www.privatejvclub.com/registernow/" target="_blank">Private JV Club</a> student call, and we were brainstorming about the idea:  <em>Who is your Best Client or Customer? </em></p>
<p><strong>This is an exercise that I give to entrepreneurs to be able to profile their best client/customer and use it as a way to amp up their <a href="http://www.claritas.com/Default.jsp" target="_blank">targeted marketing</a>.<br />
</strong><br />
Normally I would have them do this by looking at their past clients and “profiling” just like on CSI Crime Show, profiling who is their best client, the ones who spend the most amount of money and are the least trouble to deal with (<em>plus more detail on how to duplicate them and market to them</em>).  But you get the idea and <strong>you don’t guess &#8211; you use your sales reports to actually find out. </strong></p>
<p>But on this consulting call, one of the people that was creating this profile of their best client/customer didn’t actually have a mailing list or past customer base yet, <strong>so we started coming up with other ideas of how to best figure out how to do <a href="http://hartofsuccess.com/2009/04/a-marketing-medium-%E2%80%93-can-there-be-such-a-thing/" target="_blank">targeted marketing</a> for her business. </strong><span id="more-312"></span></p>
<p>One way you can do this is to do street surveys.  I had a student that used this very effectively – she stood on the street and asked people passing IF they would buy her product and what would they pay.  <strong>She ended up getting some really great insight this way! </strong></p>
<p>You could also use an online survey, (a free tool is <a href="http://www.surveymonkey.com/" target="_blank">Survey Monkey</a>) that you could use to ask your customers or potential customers what they like, dislike, and want.</p>
<p><strong>The thing is, when you’re doing targeted marketing, it’s imperative to profile your clients/customers as full individuals – researching things like:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><em>What are their circumstances?</em></li>
<li><em>Are they men or women (or both)?</em></li>
<li><em>Where do they live (demographics)?</em></li>
<li><em>What are their emotional experiences – are they coming to you because they are unhappy, because they’ve experienced a particular event (health issues, childbirth, being laid off, etc.)?</em></li>
<li><em>Anything that you can think of that defines this individual or group more fully.</em></li>
</ul>
<p>So one of the best ways to do this is through profiling one of your best past customers, but the breakthrough that we had on this call with the student that didn’t have past customer profiles to access was to realize that <strong>in a pinch, one of the best resources you can look at to profile your client/customer is to profile yourself!</strong></p>
<p><em>Did you know that more often than not we create products, programs and services WE actually want for ourselves?</em><br />
<strong><br />
How often have you created a product of service or business because you saw the need in yourself and decided to fill it?</strong></p>
<p>I am the same way – I created the <a href="http://hartofsuccess.com/2009/04/brilliant-idea/" target="_blank">Get it Done Series</a> because I found myself sitting there at the end of the year thinking, “<em>I’ve worked hard, I’ve accomplished great things, but I’ve still got this marketing list of to-do’s that I haven’t checked off yet and I don’t know how I’m going to find the time to do it</em>!”</p>
<p><strong>I created the <a href="http://www.privatejvclub.com/registernow/" target="_blank">Private JV Club</a> because I kept hearing stories from people were in my JV training classes about how they wanted to apply all of this incredible information but it was hard to get everything together for it AND to make the connections without having doors slammed in their faces!<br />
</strong><br />
<em>I remembered what it was like to be new and have no contacts, and I didn&#8217;t want to just be training people and getting them all excited and then just walk away to count my cash!<br />
</em><br />
I wanted to create a club – a house that you could walk into and meet people and clink their glass and get to know each other.  So I did create it – because it was something that I wanted for myself and for those that I was teaching.</p>
<p><strong>Then after I created the Private JV Club I wanted to go beyond that, which was why I created the <a href="http://www.stefaniehartman.com/jvcontest/" target="_blank">JV with Your Guru Contest</a> (where an unknown entrepreneur can Joint Venture with a well known person) – again, something I would have loved the opportunity for myself!</strong></p>
<p>So think about this as you work on your own targeted marketing – <em>look back on your own experience and you might find that your client/customer profile has very similar issues to you or to someone that you really identify with strongly.<br />
</em><br />
<strong>It makes it so much easier to do your marketing, because you’re marketing to yourself!  And you know how you want to be marketed to! </strong></p>
